Cop harasses Nai Baat reporter

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) Sunday asked the provincial government to take stern action against Sub Inspector Kishwar Khan of Gulberg Police Station for harassing and misbehaving with a staff reporter of an Urdu daily.

The union threatened to launch a series of protests if prompt action was not taken.

The KhUJ, quoting Jamil Mohmand, a reporter with Nai Baat, Peshawar, said he was on way to his office, when Kishwar Khan stopped him at super market and harassed and misbehaved with him for no reason.

The sub-inspector ordered his colleagues to beat Jamil and get him into a police van forcefully. Upon resistance, the sub-inspector allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.

Strongly condemning rude behavior of the police, the KhUJ President Arshad Aziz Malik said police often misbehave with journalists and this should stop. He said they would not remain silent on the issue.
